Mt Albert Town Centre Upgrade
Construction works are progressing on the keenly anticipated Mt Albert Town Centre Upgrade. The community is looking forward to wider footpaths adorned with more trees, green space, and better lighting. Alternative transport options are facilitated through the provision of cycle lanes and more bus shelters. The project will integrate with the recently completed pedestrian bridge connecting to the Mt Albert Railway Station. Stormwater management will improve also.
This $6.5m project is founded on the detailed topographical survey undertaken by Thurlow Consulting. Good design needs to be based on accurate data, something that Thurlow Consulting are very familiar with, having undertaken numerous streetscape surveys for local authorities, landscape architects, and urban design firms.
Challenges overcome during the project included: surveying at night with specialist traffic control in place; determining clearances to the railway tracks and electrification wires; surveying within buildings; and working around busy shoppers and commuters.
The upgrade is due to be completed in February 2018.
